History - Releases
Created in the end of 1994, Brennus who is a subdivision of the famous progressive rock label Musea, becomes in 3 years old an absolute referencee in the heavy metal & hard rock sceene. The label has already produced more than 23 albums...There’s young promising bands (like Manigance,Dream child, ...) & one of the "oldest" & cult band in the french sceene : Killers. Brennus really wants to rehabilitate melodic metal & rock. Brennus uses to produce french bands (another way to know them & become a specialist ! !). The label also distributes some bands like those on Thunder productions & other productions like Necropsy, Spasmophilius, Gang, Lady Blush (with the singer of Vandenplas), ezra, Killian, ....
Brennus has also released a compilation CD with 14 bands of the label at a very low price (35FF -7 $ + post if you only buy it). All the other Cds costs 112FF-19$. So discover some of the most interested metal bands from France!!! Brennus also work for the reissue of cult french bands (never released on CD) : the first ones are : Attentat Rock - Blaspheme - Stators - High power -
Read the interview of Alain Ricard!!! & don't forget to have a look at the interview section where several Brennus bands are interviewed!

Album : Power of the universe - Label : Brennus

« Running for the deal », « Power of the universe », « Princess of the rising sun » : 3 essential songs in Nightmare’s carrer. Thier second album is the expected following up of « Waiting for the twilight ». Nightmare confirmed its potential & enriched its sound. With a new singer, Jean Marie Boix (RIP), Nightmare found its voice, the voice. 12 years later, Jean marie still kept the flames alive in Nightmare’soul. This album was the last step to international success. It’s a real pity to see that « power of the universe » is the last testimony of oneof the best heavy metal act of the 80’s. « nova Atlantis », the third album won’t see the light ! What a pity !
Apprêtez vous à subir la déferlante
Wild West ! A l'heure où le ahrd rock se noie dans des courans,
des sous courants aux appelations toutes plus loufoques les unes que les
autres, Wild West revient à l'essentiel. Et l'essentiel, c'est quoi
Album : Rock Stars

Rate of satisfaction :
Album : Handle with care - Style : Heavy rock
Rate of satisfaction :
Mais, oui, vous connaissez déjà
cet album. Brennus vient de ressortir cet "Handle with Care" sorti, il
y a déjà quelques mois. Et pourquoi ? C'est évident
Album : Destroy -

Rate of satisfaction :

The french scene is really in good health,
especially the melodic one. After Dream Child (Brennus & then Metal
Blade), Headline (Brennus & then NTS), Dyslesia (Brennus), here is
Lucretia. This new band sounds really good. With a very good production,
very efficient, Lucretia plays in a old Helloween vein, when « Keepers
» part 1 & 2 were worldwide acclaimed. It’s only a first release
& it’s already a top album. The excellent singer has found powerful
melodies. He can easily catch the highest tune & the deepest one. He
is very complete. More, the guitar work is really impressive, with crushing
guitar riffs. So, if you want to enrich your « underground »
metal collection, Lucretia is really band that deserve a chance.
There’s no doubt that time is their ally. But don’t wait & get a lot
of pleasure with « Lucretia », the first album of a sure french
revelation to come.
Albums : Crazy stuff - Style : instrumental music - interview
Probably unknown to you, Stephane Vaillant
has worked for TV channel (he composed muisc for them!); This is his first
album, released on Brennus. It starts with a fast song, like Maiden meets
Satriani ( even if this song is a wink to Greg Howe). This is maybe the
best way to define Stephane's music. He keeps alive his first hard rock
influences but he later enriches his influences. From the "funk"
"Crazy stuff" to classical guitar song "Fight for life", the blues
song with "charlene is dreaming" & the big rock "Keep the pressure",
Stephane proves brilliantly his large range of play. This multi talented
artist can explore various universes & he is maybe one of the most
diversified young guitar hero that appears in France. For open minded metal
Albums : Attraction of fire - Style : Heavy prog metal - Interview
If you give some interest to the french scene, you have already heard about Farenheit, a band that released 2 selfproduced albums (& Ep's). But the step forward for this band was to create a music that totally suits to their new influences. So, Farenheit became Far'n'High & the heavy rock (hard Fm ? ) of the beginning has become now Heavy prog music. With a strong experience of studio & stage, this first album shows a very mature band. If you want some comparisons, I'd say that if you like Queensryche ("Rage for Order", "Empire", ..) Far'n' High's music is the one you need. The band plays a kind of intelligent metal, very melodic, where the technical level is faultless. With a brilliant singer, various guitar work & tons of melodic arrangements, Far'n'High delivers a subtile but efficient metal album. Eeach parts has been thought perfectly to be at its best. For a first official release, it's a real masterpiece. "Attraction of fire" is this kind of "out of time" album, an album you still gets a lot of pleasure to listen to, whatever trends or time. After Dream Child, & Headline, Brennus give a new start to the french melodic metal scene, with the help of Dyslesia, Lucretia & Far'n'High.
Albums : Khoma - - Style : Hard rock
Today, the metal scene is dominated by brutal music or melodic one. Between these 2 worlds, a few bands try to create their own place. Khoma is one of them. This band doesn't try to evolve in a trendy style. But it definitly trys to share its own musical vision. The album contains 10 songs. The 2 last ones are a bit different : "Peau rouge" has been already released on a sampler called Yveline 5 - Cry in 97 & "Surfin' Mururoa is a live recorded song. Musically speaking, Khoma plays a kind of raw hard rock; It can be fast ("Stade de France"), it can be loud ('Surfin Freedom'). Lyrics are written in french & by reading them, it's sure that Khoma has got a message to give. Lyrics are a kind of socially oriented, like a soft hard rock version of RATM, or more interesting a modern version of Trust. There's a kind of hardcore feeling inside Khoma's music. It's maybe because subtletites are not the main purposes. This is probably the hard rock version of rock bands like Noir desir. It' definitly different & original with very good lyrics.
VAE VICTIS 2
Compilation - Style : melodic Heavy
After a first volume, which was a perfect resume to a prolific independant & passionned record company, totally devoted to french bands, Brennus records released the second volume now with its current releases. Can be hear :
Fifty one's & its refreshing powerful heavy rock, Fred Rochette (Epsylon) & Regency's singer ( who strongly remains James La Brie) dans un style Heayv rock plombé.
Blind roller confirms that it's a serious outsider with a perfectly played heavy metal with strong arrangements.
Of course, nobody can ignore Headline, the french premiere progressive metal band wth a tittle from "Escape" their first masterpiece's album. It's quite the same for Arsenic, a furious speed metal act which has jsut released its second album or Muren, a new heavy speed band close to old Helloween.
In a progressive style, there's also the famous Hauteville, more inspired by rock than by metal even if guitars parts are really heavy. & Hydra for those who like precious progressive music.
Then , it comes back to heavy metal with Killers, THE french speed metal band, the oldest one in France. Here's one track from their best album to date : "Fort intérieur". At a matter of fact, Killers is the only french band that has been invited to the famous Wacken festival this 99 summer ! Younger, there's Dyslesia a lyrical heavy metal band with a singer close to midnight from Crimson Glory. There's also one track from Overstep, which is a really good surprise with a heavy metal with the french touch as it was in the 80's with Sortilege, High Power, … Anotehr good heavy metal band with progressive influences is Far'n'High whose album is not already released. It's a promising act.
More inspired by rock music, there's Smokehouse, the new band from Hervé Raynal ( Attentat Rock, Face to Face, …), Hotline & Pat Vig Group ( which sounds more bluesy!) dans un registre plus bluesy.
So, it's a17 tracks album which shows the best of melodic french metal bands. It's a real way to discover one label & the melodic french scene.
Album : My own revolution - Style : melodic speed metal -
Music Division : http://members.aol.com/Bdimmu - MusDiv@aol.com
It's their first album But it's really an impressive one. After 2 months spent in studio, Dyslesia has reached a rare level of quality for such a young band. The result is called "My own revolution" . This Cd contains 10 metal hymns from the most speed ones to the most sweetest ones. It sometimes sounds like progressive music like for "Never more", but Dyslesia has been more influenced by real metal bands & it's not collection of riffs of pretentious solos. It's real songs, very well built & with a high level & pitched quality singer. In the "Never more" chorus, he will remains andre Matos of Angra & one moment later, he 'll remain singer like Midnight of Crimson Glory & even Blackie Lawless in one part of "like a prophet". Dyslesia has already played with the best metal acts worldwide : Iron maiden, Helloween, Manowar, Stratovarious, & so on. It proves the high potential developed by this band on stage. Those who have risen with bands like Helloween, Gamma Ray or even Elegy will find in Dyslesia a serious value. No doubt that this band represents the future of melodic metal music.
Album : Hot Rocks - Style : Heavy rock - Interview
Smokeouse is the new project of the fantastic french guitar hero, Hervé Raynal who played in cult bands like Attentat Rock, Face to Face, …After a few years of silence, this man who played with the best metal acts on the biggest stage in France is back with a new project called Smokehouse. This band renews with the essential influences of Hervé. It's absolutly not modern metal like Korn or thrash metal. It's no more heavy metal like he did with Attentat Rock. Hervé renews with his roots. Smokehouse will remain music played in the end of the 70's with bands like Deep Purple & so on. All keyboards parts seems to come right from Deep Purple's albums! It's quite the same for some parts of vocals which remains Ian gillan but in a louder way. It's not at all a demonstration guitar album, even if Hervé hasn't lost his so particular touch on his instrument. The 8 songs are pure heavy orck, played by the most experimented musicians from France, including Fred guillement ( Trust, face to Face, …). The sound is very good . this come back of a french 80's legend is a pure pleasure. While some prog metal bands sounds boring with all their demonstration parts , Smokehouse is like a good kick ass to all of them. It sounds very refreshing.
Album : La pierre - Style : Heavy metal - Interview
With all these campaigns of 80's albums reissue, it's a real chance for Overstep to feature among the good surprises of the year. Overstep comes from France & plays a true 80's french metal style. If you've risen with bands like Blaspheme, ADX, Vulcain, Fisc & all the french metal wave, Overstep will be a very good invest. At first, the production is good, the guitar is in front of the album. All songs are sung in french. It's played at mid-tempos. The band trys to find for each song the ultimate chorus, the ultimate riff. It starts with a furious heavy song called "SDF" & then follow a fuure classical song for Overstep which starts like "For all those about to rock" from AC/DC . Overstep 's aim is to to claim a new order for metal music just to get a lot of pleasure by playing what they prefer. I'm sure that in the 80's when french heavy metal was at its best, Overstep would have easily asserted itself as a major band. It'll be more difficult by now, but if you like melodic heavy metal sung in French, this album is for you.
Album : Lies 'n' tears - Style : Heavy

Web : http://www.3dnet.fr/muren
Muren is a french veteran band ! They started up in the mid 80's. But due to some problems, only demo were issued. Instead of splitting up & jumping into the trend, Muren continued to play its heavy speed metal close to bands like Helloween, Maiden or Judas. In 1998, Muren finally gets its first contract with Brennus records, the french specializes metal label in France. It ends with this first album. With this renewal of melodic heavy metal, Muren has a real chance to burst out in the metal scene. At firsdt, the sound of their album is very good. Guitars are in front of this sound. Riffs are excellent & vocals line really suits to the music. The first song starts asan Helloween song ( Keeper period). There's some long instrumental parts where guitars delivered some very good duets. Mid tempos songs are alternated with fast paced rythms; thus, it's never boring while listening to it. By some ways, Muren can also remain ADX with this so characteristic precision in guitars allied with harmonies. Be careful with the last track 'get lost'. It starts like 'Flash of the blade' of Maiden, but it's not a cover & this song contains a ghost track which proves that Muren is definitly not turned into the past of metal (is it the real mean of Dance metal? ). 10 years after its beginning, Muren delivers a high level metal album. It's a real mistake to pass it!
Album : Melodic hard rock force - Style : Heavy rock
Brennus has a lot of work! With all their releases actually out, Hotline doesn't feature among the most interesant. But it's certainly due to the fact that Arsenic, Muren, Dyslesia had released masterpieces. Hotline cannot be compared to them. At first, Hotline evolves more like Smokehouse. Their influences come from the 70's with bands like Zeppelin, Purple & o on. Hotline delivered more than hundred shows facing various audiences (bike shows, …)So, their songs are rock oriented but with heavy guitars ('Voodoo man'). Their singer remains the Us singer of the 80's (Motley Crue? ). This blend is very easy to be listened to. Perfectly played & recorded, Hotline has done an honest job. It's very convincing , because of the good chorus ('rock nroll music') found there & there. §The more this album is played, the more it sounds refreshing because of its simplicity.
Album : The Mark of the Devil
- Style : Hard rock
Rate of satisfaction :
Album : Live at the spirit of 66 / tribute to Bon scott - Style : Hard rock / ACDC cover band
Here's the new release of Brennus international after Stream & the superb new album of Lars Eric Mattson that I highly recommend for all those that like excellent metal as Rainbow did in the 80's. But this time, this album is no more a metal album. High voltage is a cover band. AC/Dc are thier masters & especially the Bon scott period. So, this belgium band, created by friends played live after a lot of rehearsals. The result is this live album recorded at the famous Belgian club 'The spirit of 66' (http://users.skynet.be/sky80229/66 - firstname.lastname@example.org) . High Voltage only covers Bon scott's songs. AC/DC songs always sounds simple but there's not thousand of bands able to make a good cover . at first, the rythmic seciton must be very precise. Then, the guitar solist has to be excellent. Following t this, the AC/DC sound is not easy to get. But the last thing to get is a good singer; For High Voltage, there's no problem. You can close your eyes & sometimes you're sure that it's really Bon Scott! It's overall impressive! The sound is more modern than AC/Dc, especially for the snare drums which sounds cleare than in AC/DC. But the result is overwhelming. This album is like a 'if you want blood' part 2. I know another cover band which is AC/CD. This last one is an incredible cover band but in the 80's period of AC/DC with Brian Johnson. With High Voltage, it's the Bon scott period that seems to be back again. The 14 hymns in this live CD are so exceptionnal that nobody can ignore it.
LARS ERIC MATTSON
Bio - review - interview
Style Heavy metal- album : Obsession
E mail : email@example.com - firstname.lastname@example.org
This guitar player comes from Finland. He described himself as a classically influenced guitar dominated metal. Lars Eric Mattson is no more a beginner in the metal sceene. He played from 83 to 85 in Joe Cool band & in 86-87 in Eternity which released one single. but, due to line up problem, he creates his solo project. Discovered in 85 by Mike Varney, he is proposed to play with an ex David Bowie on drums. As it’s too commercial for him he refused. So he released a self produced EP "can’t go on without". 6 months later, Black Dragon records sign him!!Then, he released in 89 " Eternity " & " no surrender ". At this time, Lars Eric Mattson is more a band than a solo project because it’s not instrumental albums. In 91 " Electric voodoo " is released. This is an instrumental album that Lars realized lonely. In 1992, Lars formed the band Vision & recorded the album ‘Lars Eric Mattson’ vision’ released by Roadrunenr for Europe. Then, this band splitted up & Lars played with a cover band , playing some blues o Hendrix songs. In 1995, he met a singer & formed Astral Groove, which was blued based, but this project didn’t end into an album. So, in 1996, Lars give to Vision another chance & released ‘Till the end of time’. As Vision makes a break, Lars which is never out of ideas, recorded a new solo album, called Obsession & that has just been released ! To conclude Lars Eric Mattson is not one of those guitarist who always play as fast as possible & where music is only a pretext to make solo. He takes care of the structure of the songs & of its coherence.
Lars Eric Matsson is back finally with
an album. And this ' Obsession' proves to be an album of very first choice!
Never before, Lars had appeared also inspired. Moreover, it was surrounded
musicians of great talent to accompany it, and especially of an exceptional
singer who would easily find his place within Rainbow (' long way home'),
of Malmsteen or another symphonic group of metal! But it does not neglect
for all , other grounds as on the very melody ' Time & again' which
is one of the best titles of this album and which sounds as the Talisman
group. Immediately, the quality of the production shows the group with
its advantage. With the powerful time but having known to keep this smoothness
which sied with this guitarist of talent, ' Obsession' is captivating from
the beginning to the end. ' Caught in the web', the first piece takes to
you & then it never slacks its pressure. The 12 pieces of this album
are connected to perfection. Well on, one will find references traditional
to this music. But the technical luggage of Lars is with the height of
his claims. The melodies are right and do not sink in the insipidness (cf.
' Just a leo'). That it is in distortion or its light, Lars always astonishes
by the accuracy by his play. His play highlights his music & he knows
to let his place to the profit of his music. This album is to be classified
between the last Rainbow and Malmsteen in your discography. Then to conclude,
throw an ear on this album, it will surprise you, it is sure! It is one
of the traditional futures in the kind!
Album : When the time. .. - Style : Hard rock
Here’s the new sign of the famous French label : Brennus records, The first time, I’ve heard about C-one, it was on the sampler : "Metal sessions"which is a very good sampler if you want to discover underground melodic French & Belgian acts. The album begins with a very rock track. The sound of this album is really simple & poor produced, without no arrangement neither subtlety. It’s different from what is used to be hear now. I think that Cone wanted to go back to the roots of hard rock with simply one drums, one guitar, one bass & one singer. The chant is very linear and the structure of pieces quite simplistic. Influenced by bands of 80’s, it is impossible to define precisely which bands have to be noticed. More rock than metal, it can sometimes remain of Maiden for some riffs ( "welcome "), but the comparison will stop there. Purists of the style will regret the English chant. I am sure that this type of music would be 100 times better sung in French. Some very long titles (more than 8 minutes) can be found & it brings a bit more complexity to the whole album. C-One will not be certainly the surprise of the year, but those that like simple hard will find there what to be pleased.
Style : heavy rock - Album : Same
This swiss band started its carrer in 1994 after having played in various bands , from progressive rock to jazz or fusion to name a few. This richness of influences pushed them to create their own personality & own sound & style. That’s why they call their style : power rock. Their Cd’s has been recorded in 1997 & Brennus international releases it now . At first, this swiss band impresses by the quality of their recording. Their album have a good & rich sound. It’s piece of evidence to say that their large range of influences & experience must have been a solid trump during this recording. Musicians show a high potential as well to play their instruments than to find the best way to create their song. Carnival of souls take care about each details. Thus songs are really unique. Guided by a solid rythm section ( hear "kick in my face "for example ) that has got an impressive technical ability, guitarist & singer can thus give their best. Close to the US wave of Heavy rock with band like XYZ, Ratt, ;..Carnival of Souls can easily be distinguished facing these bands because they really sounds more powerful . More, melodies & surroundings developped in Carnival of Souls ‘music are not sweet ones. Some parts sounds sometimes very dark & deep (« Swin »). Using unusual themes, Carnival of Souls should convince a lot of people . Like the cover of their album, it’s really a strange but fascinating band !
Style : Heavy metal - Album : D.F.R.
- Squealer web & Mail : email@example.com - http ://www.chez.com/comicsfrance/Squealer.htm
This album originally issued in 1987 has just been reissued by Brennus records. To these that have never heard about Squealer, it was simply one of the most important french bands during 1987-1992, before the french death metal wave appears here with notably Loudblast , Massacra, Agressor and some others. Squealer have been created in 1980 after Pascal Bailly discovered AC/DC. This first album of Squealer comes after a 7’’, real collector (just as the first issue of this album !). This 7’Ep is the prize of a contest won by the band! "D.F.R." has been recorded by the band in its fief with a very simple equipment : a 8 tracks ! 4000 copies were printed & the album was sold out just a few months after its release! But attention, it ‘s certainly not sounded as a demo because even with a limited equipment, Squealer has make some prodigies and the sound of this album remains today superior than number of album issued later. It’s overall impressive. It is notably there that resided the force of this group. Squealer has appeared on the french scene with this album and it has surprised everyone ! Nobody awaited such an amazing collection of excellent songs & riffs, with such an energy, & nobody expected a so finished product with a so good quality ! Obviously, that has allowed rapidly the group to be required ( and then to confirm !) Musically speaking, Squealer was quite the french Accept ! Pascal Bailly, the frontman of the group possesses this so characteristic type voice, that he becomes then immediately identifiable. Songs as "Power it's me", "Liar " or the speed song "F**k the cops" will please amateurs of Accept , on albums like" Balls to the wall " or "Metal Heart ". It is necessary to notice the excellent work of guitars, the surprising cohesion between bassist & drummer. 11 years later, "D.F.R. "remains an excellent album and always as surprising as when it’s been issued for the first time! This 98’ version is also a CD rom where one can discover all the history of Squealer, with excellent live pics of the band coming from various period and some extracts from the repertory of Squealer ! Awaiting the complete reissue of teh 2 opther studio (& why not the live album !) of Squealer, it is great time to obtain this first effort ! After the end of this band ; Pascal has created now another band calledBallbreaker and he plays some cover of his favorite band : AC/DC !

1993 is the date of creation of Headline. The band is the meeting of various musicians not coming essentially from the heavy metal scene. Headline includes a female singer since the beginning. Then, the band worked onsome songs that they released as a demo tape to present at the musical event call "le midem" in France. As they meet good reactions facing the tracks, they worked again & released a promotional 2 tracks CD & start a summer tour of 20 dates. In 1994, they win some contest & especially the best voice contest. Then, they were offered to play as opening act of the famous bass player Pascal Mulot in Paris facing the most famous mags & french musicians. Then, the band made tons of interviews concerts, jam sessions & they participate to the tribute album " shooting star"in the memory of Warning guitarist. In 1996, they tour again with Patrick Rondat, Pascal Mulot, No return, Hoax, .... In 1997, they released "Escape" their first album, co produced by Robert Kohlmayer , the same guy that participates to Superior & Vandenplas 's album. The album is now released by Brennus records.
This album is totally impressive of mastery & ability. Headline is a band that since the beginning works professionaly, the musical way of ths musicians proves it. Headline is a meeting of passionned & musically gifted musicians. The band gives itself all it needs to satisfy its ambitions. & it seems that their ambitions are very large. Those who appreciated Vandenplas's album & especially the last one will sure be pleased of this one. But be careful, Headline is really not a copy of the german band. They get their own personality. But as Vandenplas, the result is fantastic : an overall impressive production & inspired songs & perfectly played. During the whole album, Headline shows its trumps that are all proofs of their maturity & rareness talent. Leaded by a charismatic & impressive female singer, the band differs from the main metal bands & prog metal ones by the quality of their stuctures in songs. They never falls into demonstrative parts. It's really easy to remain songs & to make a difference between each one. Regarding to the vocals, the singer works a lot to keep a powerful aspect to songs. She enriches songs with clever arrangements & there's tons of subtleties that often give different dimensions to songs. it's often hard to describe this kind of album because there absolutly no weakness & each elements put there is quite perfect, musicians are really clever . All these qualities for a young band & for a first album has not often seen.
Brennus records finds with Headline one of the best band worldwide. It belongs now to Headline to continue its work & it's sure that it'll become a major band for the forthcoming year. It's a truly must have Cd that this one. Headline could easily be compared to the best bands in Europe & USA & it's only their first album. They reached a new step in this area & it 'll be hard to overcome it, because "Escape" already features as a classic Cd & a reference in the metal scene. Regency had opened the way in France, Headline gives it its contents.
After a first album that was the french & prog revelation of 1998, Headline has gone all the French territory to convert masses of the high quality of its music. I saw them with Vandenplas & I can then assert you that on stage, the band is in its element. So, after a overwhelming year, Headline proposes us to await with an acoustic & live interlude. This Cd contains 6 acoustic version & 2 lives ones. It begins with Avalon, an instrumental tracks that also began their first album. Then the henceforth classics songs are beginning. Between"Times of Lords ", "the night is over", "you’re what you’ve got", it ‘s impossible to make a choice because this new versions are undeniably excellent. The main interest of acoustic versions can sometimes be denied, but here force is to observe that pieces are not misrepresented. Well on, the band is technically irreproachable . Didier Chesneau asserts himself as one of the best French guitarists, one of the most complete in his style, able to play in very varied registers, Christophe Babin, the bass player blows a dynamics during all pieces and the cohesion made with Frédéric Moreau, the drummer is excellent. Contributions of the keyboard played by Phil Woindrich but equally by Christophe are not negligible too. Sylvie Grare, confirms that she is one of the most talented women singer & she makes a high level cover of Queensryche’s "Silent lucidity";, which is a demonstration of both individual and collective qualities of this now major act of the French scene. The other cover in this album is a song from Yes & it’s called "Change". Then, to sum up, Headline is one of the best French bands and one of the rare which is able to compete on all plans with the most important acts evolving in the melodic prog metal scene. Headline’s songs evolves between subtleties & beauty. This miniCD contains about 52 minutes and I counsel you to listen to it very attentively because many surprised are concealed there, as well in the beginning as in the end. Headline has become in one & half record one of the best. This band is probably the Sortilège of the 90’s .
style : prog heavy rock- album :Hauteville - Interview
Hauteville has been created in 1993 by 6 musicians from France. One guitar, one drummer, one keys, one bassist but 2 singers : a man & a woman share all vocals line. Musically influenced by bands like Yes, Rush & Saga, Hauteville has never denied its influences. Some more young bands also features among their influences such as King's X, Seal, ... All lyrics are written in english with collaboration of english authors. In 1995, a 4 tracks Cd is recorded & the band get very good reviews from specialised mags. But it takes 2 years more to create the 11 best tracks they could & to record it. Brennus records signs the band & released this album in 1998.
As soon as starts this album, i feel impressed by the good production the band succeeds to get. For a first album, there's ften some weaknesses that i don't find in 'Hauteville'. Then, the name of Saga ( the band) strongly remains in me when i play all this album. Good melodies, some good riffs & a real effort in arrangements. The blend of female/male vocals is something often used now in extreme style. But it's often used to make a difference between a brutal voice & a sweet one. In Hauteville, the 2 singers owns a melodic voice. Sometimes, they sing both, sometimes not. But the alternance doesn't bother me. All depends on what the band wanted to create in songs. Then they used the best voice for it. So, Hauteville appears like a big surprise in the prog rock-hard scene & it's sure that this first album will get positive reviews & feedback . This time again, Brennus records & Alain Ricard ( the manager) propose us a new & promising band.
Bio - Presentation
Created in 91 through the meeting of 4 musicans, Swallows waited 1994 to see its line up completed by a keyboards player. Swallows style is often described at heavy rock, , american rock ar AOR. They released in 1993 a demo Cd called "848" that got good reactions & allows them to tour in France, Italy & Ireland. A first video was also recorded & then, the band worked on their first album released by brennus records. The resul t shows a mature band playing a powerful & melodic style, enriched by acoustic sounds.
This album is quite old, because released in 1996 by Brennus records. But as underground bands & record companies alwyas need a constant support because of the lack of interest mass media brings to them, it's still a good thing to present it. t's more a good thing because Swallows is a very good band, playing a sophiscated heavy rock. If in 1996, this style was not a trend & was near from death, it seems that there's a return of all bands playing heavy rock now. Swallows has got solid trumps to get a good recognition : great musicanship & techinical qualities that allows them to create qualities arrangements on their songs. More, the clean production they have allows to feel all the subtleties inside songs. To categorize Swallows, i'd say that it's near from Van Halen, Talisman, Dokken or Ratt. The singer remains me strongly Paul Stanley from Kiss. As often in this style, the band knows how to blend heavy songs with good ballads. In a way, Swallows was in advance in its time, because in 1996, it was crazy for a band & a record company to release this kind of music, as grunge movement was at its best. It proves that Swallows don't try to get advantage of the renew of a style but that the band is more those who have still believed in heavy rock& worked for its return. A proof of their honesty through the years. The Cd contains 15 tracks for a remaining time of 65 minutes. For information, the band makes a cover of "Fame", a powerful version of this disco song. The album was released in the same studio used by famous french bands like ADX, Killers, Titan, ... So, it's definitly an interesting album that this one & i'm sure it'll pleased all fans of heavy rock or hard FM , beccause each songs has been worked to get the best blend between powerful & melody.
This is the first re release of french heavy metal band of the eighties. I don't think that a lot of people have heard about Blaspheme in the 80's but on the french sceene, they were a promising band. As it's often the case for debut album, this first Blaspheme LP was very difficult to find . The second one "Desir de Vampyr" was easier to find but distribution was really not good enough to allow the band to burst out in the metal sceene. That was one of the problem of the 80's in France. So, 14 years later, Brennus re release the first Blaspheme LP. Its a self tittled album. First surprise : the sound is quite good, even if the first release was made in 1983. Of course, it doesn't sound like an actual production, but it's even better than lot of demo & debut album i've already heard. Music is of course heavy metal. The singer is good & sing closely to the best one we've ever had in France : Christian Augustin from Sortilege. What impress me a lot is the bass player : loud sound & great play. I 'm sure that lot of metal fans that had the LP & those who haven't succeed in finding it will buy this C. But if you also want to know what french sceene was lookliking in the 80's, this CD will be a good beginning. Brennus is still working on other re release. & I hope that the 2d Blaspheme will appear on the catalog, because, if this debut album was very interested & very good, "Desir de Vampyr" is a real masterpiece, still attractive.
Style : Heavy metal - Album : Désir deVampyr
Here is finally the reissue of this 2d album of Blaspheme. If their first test was very concluding when it has been released (1983), this 2d one, issued in 1985, is bluntly exceptional ! The production is far more rich than on the first album and the group has strived to render its pieces again more attractive and with good chorus. Songs as "Seul"or "Territoire des Hommes" are mistress pieces of Heavy metal music. But Blaspheme knows equally how to vary pleasures with heavier titles and more unhealthy as the brilliant "Au nom des morts " or "Orgie Romaine". Marc Fery, the singer possesses always this high pitched. Sometimes discredited on his 1st album, he explains himself & tell his opinion about those who had criticized his vocal participation on the track "Erreur de Moeurs ". Those that like Heavy metal played by Maiden would take pleasure with Blaspheme because one finds there sometimes some elements as a grounding bass, subtle harmonies and a steadfast faith in their music. The reissue effect seems to push Blaspheme back into business since some whispers here & there that a 3rd album would see the day soon. But this 2d issue of Blaspheme is therefore strongly commendable !

I think it’s the first time you hear this name, but Cyrille was also the guitar player in Arrakeen, a progressive rock band in the early 90’s, that only issued demos. His influences seems to be quite large. For "Confusions", Cyril was quite influenced by metal music, especially by progressive bands. Then, his instrumental album is a mix between progressive & heavy metal, with some classical influences. That 's really different from others guitar heroes. Music is really interested & very well structured. So, it’s not easy to make solis on such a complexive music. It remains me the intrumental side of Dream Theater, like in "Pharaons": melodic, complex ; heavy & full of technical parts ... But i think that it'too easy to comppare Cyril to Dream Theater, even if Cyril's band is perfect & play at a high technical level. Cyril complete his (complexive & powerful) music with the subtlety that belong to progressive rock bands like Pendragon (see presentation & interview of this band). So, "Confusions" remains music from bands like Magellan, Shadow Gallery. But sometimes, Cyril shows that classic guitar hero like Satriani ( in his first period), Vai & even Malmsteen also features as one of his influences. But the goal of Cyril is certainly not to play the fastest solo on earth . He knows when he must slow his game & proves that he owns a fantastic feeling & that progressive music doesn't mean to only play at a high level of technicity. To show that he is a complete artist, there's also cello in some songs. It brings a lot of originality.
So, it's a real pleasure to hear this album that contains different surroundings, from powerful to melody, taking the best from progressive & metal music with sometimes some references to classical music or jazz.
Adelscott is not really a band playing heavy metal. Adelscott is a hard rock band, sometimes more rock than hard. The band has got a very good groove in songs like in "L’hotesse de l’air". The production is phenomenal. I haven’t heard such a rock band with a so powerful production. This album is very dynamic.
Adelscott excels in playing this music. With a good french singing, the band shows differents influences such as Trust, Telephone, Noir désir or even the pop band Niagara. Sometimes, delscott get back to the roots of rock with some blues parts, but lead guitarist can also remain us that Heavy metal inspired them in some solis, like in "Salome". Adelscott succeds in including modern touches in its music like in "sam et sa Médaille" . That’s why the guitar sound is very big for such a band. . Lyrics only seems to be fun but it has sometimes a second sense. Adelscoot is really a band to discover in a style that has to be re-discovered.
With Black Swan, we enter the kingdom of a superb heavy rock. Black Swan sounds like an american band. With a female singer who has a fantastic voice, surely the best in France, Black Swan ‘s got indisputable trumps. She’s got a real charisma & a rare powerful in her voice (that’s really something that lots of female singer lack). The drummer bringS some fantasies in his game (for the rythm or the play with cymbals), that changes from other heavy rock band (« So long »). There’s plenty of good musical gimmicks like in the tittle track for example. Black Swan is one of the rare band still playing heavy rock. Ths band could certainly rehabilitate this style.. So if you’re keen on music full of melodies with powerful guitars, this band is the one you need.
This band is no more a heavy metal one. Drifting sun evolves in a more progressive rock hard. This band is the one of Pat Sanders, the keybord player. But, it’s really not a demonstrative band without guitars. It’s very good progressive songs which sometimes remians me Pendragon (See in page 3 or Toff rec on the labels page). The bass player has got a fine way of play with a great sound. It’s a technical instrumentist (hear "Jamie was a vampire "; or "Looking at Lucy").
Keyboards are not omnipresent, there’s only some interventions tobring a special surrouding. Guitars are between rock & hard, but solis are very close to progressive rock : very clear with precision, not speed & always melodic. Sometimes, Drifting Sun become more powerful like in "Communication" & remain some hard band of the early 80’s. So Drifting Sun is definitly a good progressive rock band with some hard rock influences. Still for the open minds.

After a disconcerting intro with saxophone, you think that there’s a mistake. But soon, it starts & you cannot stop this CD. Clipper plays hard rock near from its roots. The only difference is that the voice & melody lines are closer to american hard rock bands than Europpean one.
The drums & bass are played by Farid Medjane & Fred Guillemet, ex TRUST members. So it’s really on the top, very dynamic & without any failure. Guitarist has got this typical sound of Fender guitars. H’s got a great feeling & remains lots of guitar heroes of the 70’s. But sometimes, Clipper breaks new ground in this style : like a slap bass on "Girl come back". The band seemss to have a great pleasure in the making of this album. There’s good arrangements made on guitarslike in "When the chip are down". For a hard rock band, Clipper trys to make quite long songs (all longer than 4,3 minutes). With this band, you can get back to the roots & see that there’s not only AC/DC on earth.
"Torn between two worlds"
Created in mid 1990, Dream Child is now THE absolute referencee in the melodic power metal sceene. They only made 2 demos. The first one "First visions" in 1992 was recorded on a 8 tracks, the second one "Create a new world "in 1994 on a 24 tracks studio. At this time, reviews were excellent & not only in France.
So, NSR prod. A little label sign the band in 1994 to record a first album. The famous LMP (Helloween, Angra, Heaven’s gate, ...) also sign the band in 1995, impressed by the potential of Dream Child. But due to problems, they remixed & remastered this album & is finally released by Brennus, in 1996. The band has already turned with Vandenplas, Crematory, ...
If you search the influences of Dream Child, have a look to bands like Angra, Judas Priesst, Dream Theater, Helloween, Savatage, .... It’s right that Dream Child has all that a band needs to assert itself on international sceene. At first a very good production, a powerful sound. Experienced musicians :guitars, bass, drums are perfect . An exceptionnal singer, somewhere between Rob Halford, Christian Augustin (Sortilège), Midnight (Crimson Glory) & Geoff Tate. His has got a charisma voice, hot, powerful, very attractive. This allows the band to make better backing vocals & great vocals lines & harmonies.
But Dream Child is not totally a melodic band. They put some aggressivity in music for certain parts or some songs but there’s always good melodies to counterbalance this brutality. If the main heavy metal bands of the eighties could have had such qualities, noody would say Heavy metal is dead or old fashioned. This album ids fascinating, full of emotions & energetic. This album also remains me the one of Superior, even in the cover made by Eric Philippe (Gamma Ray, Stratovarius, Forbidden...). I forgot to tell you that Dream Child is a french band ( & not a german or english or american one).
It’s really the first time since 10 years that a french heavy metal band has got an international stature. Now it’s done, So don’t forget this C ‘cos it ‘ll soon be a collector.....
MANIGANCE : "Signe de vie"
Read the interview!!
Here’s a new band in metal sceene. Manigance is born in 1995. But Manigance is not a band created by novices. In Manigance, featured ex Killers, Jumper Lace, Dally Dalton, Crazy hammer members. After a demo & gigs as support act in 1996, (at this time the band were often making covers of Dream Theater, Toto, Pretty Maids, Van Halen, ...), they recorded a 6 tracks CD in 1997. With such differents influences, Manigance plays a melodic power metal with some progressive touches, close to Vandenplas.
This CD is really a good debut,, due to the quality of musicians. This music is really well done & composed. Heavy metal plays like that is really attractive & exciting. Like Dream Child, Manigance rehabilitates heavy metal & proves that it’s not a boring, old fashioned music, especially when it’s played like that. If the first track of the CD is really a powerful metal track, the band is really close to Vandenplas in the other tracks with good clean guitars, a fine drummer (great cymbals play) & a really good singer.
This time again, Manigance proves that french language is not a barreer. This language is really melodious with lots of musicality. Manigance is a new band to be discovered & probably a major band for the next years.

interview #1 - interview #2(Fort intérieur) - interview #3 (109) -
THE french cult band still in progress & in activity (with Vulcain). The debut CD of Killers was released in 1985 ! ! !For now, the band has recorded 6 albums & one live. Killers was also one of the first speed metal band with ADX in France. They have along time with ADX : same label, gigs together, same labels changes, ...
But in 1986, after the second album. Killers splitted up. Bruno Dolheguy continue alone Killers & search for new musicians. The other members created Titan which released 1 album & 1 live (recorded on a gig with ADX which also recorded its live performance for their "Execution publique" album). Killers knows lots of problem. It’s really the devil of a job for them. They released albums but there was lots of problems for distribution. At the end, killers made self produced & distributed albums. But the real support of fans & their passion in music lead us to continue again & again.
When Brennus is created, it’s logical to see the label having interest on the band. So, Killers is signed again & released new albums "Contrecourant "& a live album "Ennemis en public". Brennus also worked at the re-issue in CD of the whole discography of the band (Killers started the re issue in 1996) ; Now, all Killers’ album has been re released. SO it’s time ot discover the band or to complete your discography ! ! ! ! ! Killers is actually working at its 8th album , previous release in october, so soon in the news!!!!
"Les fils de la haine ":
this album is the debut of a french speed metal band in 1985, selfproduced but distributed by Madrigal. Despite a production that don't give the best for the band, this album contains future classic Killers songs : "Rosalind ", "Chevaliers du deshonneur " still played by the band. The voice is quite surprising ‘cos near from Udo Dirkschneider from Accept . This album brings the basis of a future quality band. Killers evolves in a metal music as german band from the eighties was playing :fast & melodic. Somewhere between Helloween, Judas priest, Accept or Running Wild . Killers shows its potential.
"Danger de Vie":
It’s the classic album of Killers. With a better production, this album is (on my own opinion) the best album released in France in 1986. Close to the first one, but with a better sound, this album contains lots of classic songs like "Minorité ", "Délire de mort ", "L’assassin", "Maitre du metal ", ...Tempos are a bit slower but it still energetic & inspired. There's good lyrics quite different from the main one in this time. It's lyrics that are near from reality & not coming from fantasy.
"Mise aux poings" :
This 3rd album issued in 1987. It is also the first with a totally new line up, 'cos only Bruno Dolheguy continue the band with new guys like the future guitarist of Manigance. For now, the sound is perfect. Killers has also speed its tempos as it was in the first album. But the Killers' style asserts itself with this album. If you're keen on melodic speed metal with fantastic riffs parts & solos, this album is the one you need. "Mise aux poings" is on my own opinion, the moment where Killers will slowly but surely evolve, making its music, its sound, its technical level at a higher point.
Killers takes its time with this album. It need 2 years to release it. This time again & always, all is better than before. This album also contains lot of songs that the band still plays in concert. Killers stay trur to its style & to its fans. But the band has made its vocals, backing vocals & musical sense better. There's still speed songs but the band can also write some metal hymns as Judas Priest or Running wild. Killers has a real precision in the rythmics parts of its song. This album & its following can surely remain bands like Helloween , Tyran Pace. The only difference stays with vocals that are really something unimitable & personnal.
"Les cités interdites" :
This one is also issued 2 years after "Résistances" ,so in 1992. It's may be the last one of a period. Killers have gone as far as possible with its style. On this one, the band makes a surprising & very good cover of female singer Barbara called "L'aigle noir" that the band still plays live. It seems like if a great effort has been made on backing vocals. The cover is also one of the best that the band has made.
"Contre courant" Killers changes a bit its music.
If rythms are always speed, it seems as if it has less melodies. IIt also seems as if the band was enraged & angry. With always demanding lyrics, dealing of social problems, Killers renews its style. In fact the melodies are different; th eriffing parts are less close to what they did before & give more aggressivity to the songs, that's certainly why it seems more enraged. The sound is very actual & really one of the most powerful for a metal band ( & not only in France). Killers records its album in its own studio ( that's where the band put its money in & that's a good choice!). With "Contre courant" , Killers proves that it's not an old fashioned & closed minds bands.
"Ennemis en public" :
11 years after"Les fils de la haine", they recorded a first live album. 15 tracks from all Killers albums. If you want to discover Killers it’s surely the best way. With a great sound for a live gig (it is very close to the one of "Contre courant") , Killers plays all its classics & some tracks from the last album. It’s a real pleasure to hear new versions of old tracks with such a good sound. Killers shows that metal is quite alive & well & not only for nostalgics of a completed period. There's also two covers, the one of Barbara (See Résistance") & another of AC/Dc, "Walk all over you" with lyrics re written in basque!!). Killers has always been a live band & the communication with the audience proves that the following of Killers is important & stay true to the band.
style : melodic speed metal - album : fort intérieur
Band E Mail :Killers64@aol.com - interview on the new album
Killers is back!!! & even mightier than ever said the bio. 8th album that this one, coming after a live 'Ennemis en public' that allows the band to gain more & more audience & to become again one of the most exciting melodic speed metal band from France. More, the band works a lot to create the maximum music they can : 16 tracks for 74 minutes of intense & devastating speed metal. Still sung in french, Bruno makes a lot of effort to diversify his vocals line. What impressed me more in this album is the excellent work made by Ronan Jacques on drums. It's like if the band told him during the recording to do all he wants & to show all its abilities. All his parts result to give a more dynamic touches to the whole album. Guitars have also been worked a lot. Killers enriched its guitars parts by a more modern approach of composition. But the band doens't also deny its style. & this blend is really amazing & awesome. 'Allez vous...' or 'Plus fort que la colère', 'Paranoîa', 'surs de rien', & so on are captivating tracks & features probably among the best songs ever created by the bands. Killers succeeds with this 8th album to reborn the 80's heavy speed metal feelings but without being a old fashioned band. Between their past & the future, Killers features as the last true metal band from France. The band also proves that metal is really not dead when songs are like all this album leaded by a true & honest inspiration. Killers doens't lie. They're back & they 've still a lot to say & propose ( hear their socially turned lyrics!). 'Fort intérieur' will certainly make all metal fans remembered their childhood but with an album that sounds as modern as what is proposed by young bands. A work of art!
Album : 109 - Style : Speed metal - Interview
9th album for this french metal legend ! The last 80's french metal band still in activity. "Fort intérieur", their previous album was a real bomb, it's now become a real classic in the carreer of the band. As a matter of fact, Killers is the only french band which appear in the Wacken festival this summer. SO, it's not easy to overcome such a good success. Bruno Dolheguy, the mentor of Killers has fired all members & replaced them all. This fresh blood has quite modified the evolution of the band. The band is back with a more aggressive album, more direct too, both for the production than for the songs. As always, each Killers' album gets its own identity. So, we still gets this bloody Killers, the one that released albums like "Contre-courant" with a feeling sometimes close to hardcore. The first track "Le Meilleur" is a real adrenalin discharge. Lyrics are still socially oriented but there's som enew themes happening ! Bruno has still this inner anger. But this time he also wrote more allegorical lyrics & it makes a kind of concept inside the album based upon a knights' story. At last, Bruno has wrote a epic song, the first one for Killers. "Legends" is a 15 minutes songs & shows all what Killers can offer to its fans. So, if at first, "109" seems less captivating than "Fort intérieur", it's at the end a really convincing album.
"Menace to unity "
See the special Toxic Twins page ! - Read the interview!
Created in 1994, in Corsica, the band recorded a first album 6 months later in England with the aim to be signed by a record company. So in 1995, they get to Los Angeles to find distributors. They’ll meet Rob Halford, Vince Neil, Lemmy, ... at the NAMM. The result of this travel is radios passages, reviews on the web & good sold in States.
In 1995, they sign with a new record company & recorded the "Menace to unity" album. Due to problems with the label ( it was just a rip off & several bands were fucked up like Acting Out, Lonewolf, ...), they quit them & sign with Brennus in 1997. So the label re released this album. Meanwhile, a video is released which obtains osme passages in M6 a french national TV channel.
Toxic Twins described itself as a heavy rock band. I would prefer to describe them a sa heavy metal band with strong american influences like Motley Crue with Corabi(« Bastard » for voices,"Tribal painting" for guitars). But Toxic Twins can also for some parts be near from thrash metal. They don’t want to have limits in their music. They’ re really open mind musicians. In fact, the band remains me Leatherwolf, Motley Crue or Vicious rumors. This mix is really original. The voice is quite harsh but there’s real melody lines on songs & not cries. This voice is quite near from bands like Rage, Running Wild, ...
All these elements make this band unclassifiable. If this band have a good support from metal fans, it will surely burst out in the metal area. see the interview!!!

A new heavy metal band ! ! ! This is still a great debut. With a first album recorded by Bruno Dolheguy (of Killers) in the Killers ‘ studio, Arsenic has got a good CD with a very good sound for a first act. This band is may be unknown but its musicians are surely plays in bands for several years. So, there’s no major weakness on music. It’s a great heavy metal with melodic parts. They really take care of making recognizable songs. It’s a real pleasure to listen to this album. The singer remains me the one of Demon Eyes ( a french metal band in the eighties). Lyrics are written in french & it remains how our language is pleasant to the hear.
With lots of influences, Arsenic can remain some german bands by the precision of rythmic parts. But Arsenic seems also to have been influenced by english bands like Iron Maiden :the guitar harmonies of the tittle track looklike "prowler"of Maiden. Aresin is composed a experienced musicians that have a real pleasure to play heavy metal. I’m sure that the aim of this album is to invite you to listen to it & to have the same pleasure as they have to do it (but don’t forget that it’s a real well recorded & composed album & not a trick).
Album : Etats d'urgence - Style : Heavy speed metal - interview

Arsenic has atonished a lot of people 2 years ago with a first brilliant album called 'Lady sniper'. This time, with a new drummer, Arsenic is back. Still recorded by Bruno Dolheguy, the mentor of Killers, in his own studio, Arsenic has done its masterpiece. I'm sure that the arrival of a new drummer has boosted their sound & songs! It starts with a piece of classical music played with guitars & then it's like a deluge. Arsenic alternates between fast song & mid tempos ones with sometimes some thrash metal riffs ('coups d'éclat')or some more commercial ones ('Etats d'urgence')! Still leaded by this so particular singer, Arsenic still proposes french lyrics based essentially on society. If 'Lady sniper' was over produced, Etats d'urgence sounds more natural. The sound is raw & powerful with few artifices. Between bands like Motley crue & Metallica, Arsenic has created its own personality. It's more melodic than aggressive but it's not at all progressive music. Arsenic takes a lot of pleasure by delivering 9 metal hymns including a good ballad. This is a musthave!

Stators is a french band that was acting in the mid 80's during the french wave of heavy metal. Stators is not the most famous bands of this scene but it's a real pity. brennus records released again & in CD format this album originally issued in 1985. 'never to late' is a good surprise for this quite unknown band. If you lik good heavy metal, this band is perfect. Singer & music can remain what Lizzy Borden was making in its early period. This is really refreshing stuff proposed there. Guitars are really good & songs are really pleasant. Some riffs can also remain old Dio like in 'Fall safe'. It's unbelievable to see that a so much talented band has not released more than one album. May be the fact of the decrease of the french scene at this period. Fortunately, Brennus has got the good idea to put it again in the highlights. Thanks to him!
Style Hard rock - album : Attentat Rock
Click on below for interview from Guitar player & singer
Attentat Rock...For those who listen to heavy metal for more than 10 years, this band will surely remain something. Attentat Rock was one of the best french bands appearing in the mid eighties. In 1983, the french scene was leaded by Trust & Warning, but in 1983, Attentat Rock released a self produced & self tittled LP . The success of this one bring them to be signed by Devils Records in 1984 for their 2d LP : 'le Gang des Saigneurs' that will be soon re issued. Then, their 3d & last album 'Strike' brought some changes : english lyrics, english singer & a more heavy metal style. This band played with act like Maiden & some others great metal bands. Then, guitarist , Hervé, splits with the band. They continued under the name of Pink Rose & released a more melodic album (glam rock style). Their guitarist, Hervé Raynal continued his carrer into Face to Face . he released several album with them (still availble at Brennus records) & play at the french monster of rock with bands like Aerosmith & more. Then he played in Shine. Hervé is now soon back with a solo effort . You can discover more about Attentat Rock by reading interview we made last month by clicking here.
After this long resume of Attentat Rock's carrer, it's time to present this first album. As i've said, this album was self produced & it was very difficult to find it. that's a reason why those who knew the band later could be surprised by this album. More rock'n' roll- hard than heavy metal. This album gets after 15 years a still good sound. You can immediatly recognise teh guitars sound: very rock, Marshall's like! the badn also worked a lot to find good melodies. tracks like ' l'enfer', 'briser la glace' or 'hard core' are still powerful in their style. This reissue also contains a bonus track : 1 track from the 7" ep released by the band at their beginning. Cult & rare! This album is a good way to discover a very talentuous guitarist : Hervé Raynal.
Album : Le gang des saigneurs - Style : Heavy metal
After having reissued their first & selfproduced LP, Brennus continues with the second Attentat Rock album, originallyissued in 84 on Devil's records. It's the same line up but music is very different. The first album was showing a good rock hard band. This album shows a pure heavy metal album. Hervé Raynal, the guitar hero (which has a new album out called Smokehouse!) has created its more heavy riffs for this album ('transeurop express'). The production sounds very raw & powerful depsite the years. With Didier Rochette as lead singer, Attentat Rock keep this "commercial" style of their first album. But as music is heavier, he had to give mroe aggressivity to his voice. 'Le gang des saigneurs' was in the 80's a typicalfrench metal album which built the french scene. Songs like 'Guerriers de la nuit' are quite intemporal. The pleasure of listening again this album is enriched with the 2 bonus tracks ofered by the band. It's 2 songs that will appear in their 3 & last album 'strike'. These ones are in english & shows that Attentat Rock was becoming album per album, the most interesting & professionnal heavy metal band from France. A must have for all nostalgic of 80's metal!
Style : Heavy metal - Album : High power - Interview
High Power is another french band of the 80's. This one was really not lucky. They released a splendid first album. For the second one, Dieter Dierks ( the one that released all the best Scorpions albums) started to record their 2d album but the band has to come back in France to finish it. & the result was so bad that finally the band splitted up. Last misfortune was death of their singer. That's why we'll never see the come back of High Power. Fortunately, Brennus proposes us teh re issue of their first act: High Power (don't expect for their 2 d CD, it 'll never be re issued. But a live album from the 80's is scheduled ...)
If you've grown with the heavy metal sound, this album is the one you need to return to childhood. But don't think that it's definitly out of time. With the return of band like Running Wild, Hammerfall, Angra & tons of others talentuous metal bands, High Power could have been as equal as them. Of course, the production now sounds quite old. But the qulities of the band are still here : powerful riffing parts, solid & original singer ( not a clone!), excelent solis & guitars harmonies, good lyrics ( written in french)/ High Power was with Sortilege one of the rare band able to create various surroundings to illustrate their lyrics. That's why their music is still captivating. Songs like'Comme un damné', 'Offrande charnelle' could be described as progressive metal songs because of their ambient climax & complexive structures. But high power was also able to compose solid & short metal songs like 'Cauchemar', 'Casse toi', & some others. So, definitly a highly recommendable Cd , destined to a large audience .
Album : Live 84/87 - Style : Heavy metal - Interview
High power is unfortunately a unlucky band. Their second album recorded with Dieter Dierks at the Dierks tudi (Scorpions) was a real disaster. The sound were not very good & it was really not the "big sound" as it should have been in a studi olike that. So, High Power disbanded. Last but not least, a few years later, Patrick Malbos, their charismatic singer died. So, don't await a reunion, it 'll never happen. Brennus has reisued their first album but today, it's anotehr one which is released & still on Brennus. It's a live album ! Tracks have been taken from 2 different gigs. The first one in 1987 presents only songs from the second album. The other gig was recorded in the early years of High power : 1984 & it shows tracks form the first album. This album allows to discover again furious heavy metal songs like "Avocat", "Heavy rock", "sous l'œil du cobra", …High Power showed that it was a real live band & only a few can compete with them. Patrick Malbos, the singer was really excellent. He gets a particular voice able to be very clear or to be very dark. Guitar parts were strongly influenced by bands like Maiden ( there's a lot of double guitar harmonies). So, it's a 50 minutes of high quality & intense live music with as last track the wonderful "Offrande charnelle", a very attractive dark song. But as a second surprise, there's also 3 tracks form their second album. Like I said, the sound is not as good as it should have ben, but songs are good. & it's the best. It really gives the will to listen in CD "Les violons de Satan", which would be the last episode of a talentuous unlucky band.
style rock hard - Album : century Scream
Click on below for interview
This is the first album of north of France band called Century Scream. After a demo that showed a more powerful side of their music, the band proposes with their first CD, a more melodic & calm music. Musically , these musicians are really good. Guitars solis are excellent & when tempos is played at a faster rythm, Century Scream shows a really interesting face. But to the powerful side, the band prefers to exploit the romantic one. So, there's a lot of ballads or slow songs. so, it sometimes sounds more like a pop band, kinda french Bon Jovi, may be. It's not un pleasant to listen to this Cd. Songs are quite long. There's only 3 songs under the 7 minutes. But it doesn't mean that Century Scream is a progressive band at all. Lyrics are written in french except for one song. On one song 'Time', Patrick rondat, a friend of the band, plays some solis. To conclude, this band is quite pleasant if you want to hear good ballads & calm songs. So don't expect to be crushed by powerful metal songs or you'll be disapointed.
Album : Jealousy - Style : Heavy rock
Rate of satisfaction :

51's is the project of Fred Rochette ( not the same person than in Attentat rock 2 first LP's) . Fred was also guitarist of 80's band called Epsylon. He released 2 albums ( 1986-89)with this band, before splitting up. Then, After 10 years & more than 500 gigs, Frd started a solo carrer under the name of Fred FR. during the recordings of his first solo LP, he joined Johnny hallyday for his 'Cadillac' tour' at Paaris Bercy! Then , he created his iwn studios and participates to several projects, (movie filmtrack, ...). At the end of 1996, his new band 51's complete its line up, with french singer of Regency (metal prog that signs with Thunder productiosn for a mCD very close to Dream Theater), he started the recordings of a first album. Brennus signs the band & releases this album.
Musically speaking, 51 's will surprise a lot of people. It's really amazing songs recorded by Fred. With this album, he proves that he's not a one styled guitarist. As Fred best guitarist is Adward Van Halen, you can imagine how it sounds. 51's is this kind of band that makes you sure you're listening to a US heavy rock band like Extreme. The singer sings very differently than he did with Regency. His vocals line are more simple of course, but the tone of his voice is also louder & he uses more US singer's gimmicks. More, the production completly suits to this kind of music. There 's also a good cover of Beatles ' standard : 'Help' played with a speed tempos. this album can alss pleased all those that enjoyed first Guns & Roses albums ('til Appetite for destruction'). A great discovery & again a solid album released by the growing Brennus records. This Cd is also a Cd rom with all lyrics , members photos & bio (favorite artists, songs, film & so on. )
Label : Brennus international- style : heavy metal- Album Stream
Brennus international is a new brench of Brennus records, only devoted to international productions (Brennus only releases french melodic metal bands). Stream is their first sign. & as you'll see it's really not unknown guys behind this band. Created in the mid 80's by Peter Scheitauer, the band has already released a first album & toured with Satriani, Fisc, Victory, ...In the end of 89, they enter Dierks studio (Scorpions, ..) to prepare a new album. But the band splitted. Then, Strem renews with dave 'the beast' Spitz ( ex : Black Sabbath, White Lion, Great White to name a few). The line up is completed with Stet Howland (Wasp, blackfoot, impelliteri, ...) & david Reece (Accept, Bangalore Choir). Then, peter invited some firends to complete the line up : chuck Wright (Quiet Riot), Pat Torpey( Mr Big, Robert Plant) . the result is Stream their first album. A new one is already scheduled with eric Singer (Kiss, alice Cooper), bob Daisley (Ozzy, rainbow, ...).
This album is certainly one that will work for the renewal of US heavy metal. As you 've seen, this band is composed of skilled & talentuous musicians. Sure, the 80's period was the best one for them. & with this album they all try to make this period rebirth. So, there's full of crushing riffs & guitar licks, melodic& vicious vocals, ...Nothing to say : it's a really good work. David Reece will surely remain Dio in some vocals line. in 12 trakcs, Stream condensed all things that make the success of Heavy metal. Now, we've just to expect to see them on tour.

Coming from the south of France, blind Roller is a new band that appears in the metal scene. Created in 93, the band works a lot to find its own style. As they win a contest, they get in the NSR studio ( the same than Dream Child used for its first album)to record a 4 track mCD. Then Brennus hears it & feels as interested than teh band enters studio again to record a full length album, still with NSR production.
Recording in the NSR studio allows this band to have a up to the average sound. It's overall impressive for such a youg band. The style o fthe band is quite original. Blind Roller loves melodies but doens't want to give up powerful . I think that Blind roller can be described at a blend of Metallica & Van Halen. Metallica for the tempos & loud riffing parts, that can sometmes remain the 'black album'. It's loud, precise & definitly powerful. But there's also a lot of melodies. Singersounds like Paul stanley of Kiss or like the singer of first Heir Apparent . He can also remain the one of CJSS albums ( with Chastain ) & almost for his vocals line. It's typiocally the kind of vocals line that enters your mind & never gets out . What impresses me a lot is the quality of their guitar solos. it gives me the same impression as hearing to Eddie Van Halen. He plays fast, technical, melodious solis. He's really a talentuous guitarist. There's a cover in this album. thetrack is 'Bring the Daughter....to the slaughter' of Iron Maiden. Their version is quite personal : a bit slower ( still the same tempos as in the 'black album'!) & with a more melodici singing. in definitive, I highly recommend you to get this very good first album.
HOT SPACE TRUCKERS :
style : Hard rock - Album: Hot Space truckers
It's good to see that bands like Hot SPace truckers still exists & plays their high energy Hard rock. In a same spirit than Adelscott, this band proposes a solid 'back to the roots' album. The drums kit sounds like an acoustic one & not like a rythm machine, guitars has got the sounds given by Gibson & Fender. Musically speaking, the band could be compared to french bands like Adelscott, Telephone or Trust. Adelscott for the experimentation on some tracks ( slap bass, drums parts, ...), telephone for the voice of the singer & melodies, Trust for the energy given by the band. But Hot space Truckers renews quite a lot this style, including new elements like slap bass or excellent drums parts. This give a new color to this 'quite old music'. Then, you never have the impression to hear something played one thousand times before. Hot Space Truckers is really at their best when playing powerful songs, because ballads are not their best tracks. there's also some tracks sung in french & i must admit that it's my favorite one, may be because, the feeling of the singer sounds better. In a metal scene dominated by Black metal or progressive bands, it's good to hear a band like Hot Space Truckers. it's very refreshing songs that give you a lot of energy!
