Spring 2001, Yuko and Rémy gave a charity concert in Yuko's home town Chigasaki with a group of local musicians. The event was named "Heart meets Rhythm" and was hosted by the International Association of Chigasaki, or "IAC" (http://7jp.com/iac), in this "year of International Volunteers". The concert was held on Friday, May 11th at Chigasaki Cultural Center (or Chigasaki Shimin Bunka Kaikan) as a part of "Shonan Jazz Festival".

We put this show in unity to promote live music, which we believe ultimately enriches people's hearts. Music has a magical power that brings us joy; it heals people, communicates as a global language and brings our hearts together transcending all gaps, barriers and differences - be it cultural, language, walks of life, gender or age. And when it's live, the intensified power of the music is so immense that we can get swept away into a rapture! Music is a potential salvation in today's urban/modern society, and it is our hope to bring back that spirit of live music in people's everyday life. The awesome power of live music can really ignite the fire of passion in our hearts!

Our show "Heart meets Rhythm" was centered around percussions. We wanted to offer our audience a first hand experience of life energy surging up from the ground and rushing through us like a volcano, vibrating every cell in the body with the excitement - a thrilling sensation only live rhythms can bring, making our hearts beat as one. Opening with Yuko's fantasie-impromptu version of "Akatombo" in solo, the show gradually expanded into a 13 piece act on stage (piano, guitar, bass, drums, vocal and 8 percussions) and finally with the entire audience of 400 people clapping, dancing, chanting and singing to the music!

In partnership with the International Association of Chigasaki, we managed to raise a profit of approximately US$ 4,500, which will be devided into 3 parts and given as donation to the NGO's in Cambodia, Sri Lanka and Kenya, working to help kids get access to school education.

We sincerely thank everyone that participated in making this event a success story!

Yuko's home town Chigasaki is about 65 kilometers or 40 miles from Tokyo, on a Pacific seaside. It is a city nationally known for being home to many surfers, some big time musicians and a few famous actors. Shonan is a region well appreciated and loved for its culture of easy life style. The vast view of the Pacific ocean gives much relief to the scenery and perhaps, a certain openness to people's hearts and the nature of its residents. A walk on the beach may provoke a hint of "fisherman's philosophy" in one's thoughts, and we do have local restaurants and "izakaya"s (Japanese pubs, traditional style, highly recommended for an authentic experience of the culture) that serve wonderful fresh catch of the day! Just a day trip from Tokyo, it's an excellent get away.
